Having spent time living in France as a ski and snowboarding instructor, Ffion has returned to Ruthin to open a shop which sells boarding clothes. How has her time in France influenced her wardrobe?
Nia: Is being trendy important to you?
Ffion: I'm not sure about being trendy but I like to be different to everybody else and that's why I've opened a shop really, so I can choose my own clothes. When I order clothes for the shop, I order one thing for myself which won't be sold in the shop so that nobody else will have the same garment!
Nia: Is it important for you to be unique then?
Ffion: I wouldn't say it's really important, it's just the way I've been brought up I think and I just love wearing clothes that are different to everybody else. I'll never shop in high street shops, I won't even go in to them, I hate them so much! So, most of my friends don't enjoy shopping with me. At the moment, the only places I'll shop is the fantastic Camden Market in London, Afflecks Palace in Manchester or the Corner Exchange in Leeds. People say to me, I like your clothes, where do you get them but I won't tell anybody!
Nia: I've never met anyone that has a wardrobe in his or her kitchen! Explain!
Ffion: Basically I've got too much clothes and not enough space so I've had to put a wardrobe in the kitchen!
Nia: What do you keep in the wardrobe in the kitchen?
Ffion: It's full of coats. One coat is vintage and was given to me by my grandmother. I'm sure it's about 50 years old and it's my favourite. This other one has an unusual shape. I bought it from the vintage section in the 'Clothes Show' last year. It has a Japanese shape. I've worn this one a lot and I love the shape.
Nia: How about wardrobe number 2? What do you have in this one?
Ffion: The top section of the wardrobe holds my boyfriend's clothes, and this is the only space that he has to keep his clothes, bless him. I've called the bottom drawer the 'just in case drawer'. Just in case I have children one day and that they'll want to borrow my clothes like I do from my Mum - she has an attic full of vintage clothes which is fantastic. I even have drawers to hold clothes I've never worn!
Ffion: Do you want to hear a secret? Green is in fashion next year. It's in fashion this year but more so next year so I've bought lots of green items! I know what's in fashion the year after too but I won't share that just yet!
Nia: I notice that a lot of your clothes are quite 'busy'. There's lots of patterns and writing on them. This is obviously something you like?
Ffion: Yes it is. They are so different, you'll never find someone wearing these skirts. They are one-offs and that's what I like about them.
Nia: How about the blue sparkly top?
Ffion: It's really retro and I bought it from a shop in Leeds. It was a one-off found in a Bargain Bin and was only £10, which was fantastic. I was so pleased!
Ffion on clothes...
My clothes are quite a big part of my life and I think they reflect my personality. They are quite busy and colourful and that's the kind of girl I am!
