You either like it or you don’t. There’s no middle ground. I liked it from the start, and I knew this was the dress for me! I was going past Wedding Belles in Llanfairpwll. I saw the dress with the dragon on it and thought ‘Wow’. I stopped, stared and decided this was the dress for me.
So you’re that kind of person – you know your own mind, and what you want?
I’m very stubborn, yes!
So it doesn’t matter what anyone says – that was the dress you wanted!
Yes, and that’s what I got – I don’t regret it at all!
What made you decide to get a dress with a Welsh dragon on it?
Well, Michael said that if he ever got married he’d wear a kilt – and so I thought hold on, I had to get something which stood out too! Then when I saw the dress with the dragon on it, I thought it was perfect because his kilt was a Welsh kilt and for the ten years we’d been together he took a Welsh dragon everywhere and it had become a bit of a joke.
One thing about this dress is that it’s so plain on the front you’d never imagine that there was anything on the back. So it has that wow factor when you pass and you have a Welsh dragon sticking out of your backside! Most of my friends knew and thought they were the only ones who knew – on the wedding day they all told people they knew, and everyone else said they knew too! I’m rubbish at keeping secrets!
I was really nervous and all I could hear as I walked down the aisle was (gasps). It was nice, really nice! When I reached Michael he was too nervous to turn around and I wanted him to see the back of the dress! When we went to sign the register, he saw it and he swore!
What does your dress mean to you now?
The dress is lovely – I have no regrets – I think it should get more attention rather than be stuck in a box in the attic in a terrible state. I think it should be in a museum somewhere for people to see it!
