Geraint Williams is a Development Officer for the Law Society and loves clothes.
"If I'd saved everything I'd spent on clothes over the years, I'd have paid the mortgage off years ago. Working in law means that I have to dress smart for my work and when meeting with solicitors I tend to make a mental note of what I'm wearing to avoid doubling up."
Nia: When did your interest in clothes start?
Elle: It's an interest that's always been with me, and my style has changed a bit over the years as I've changed. When I was younger, I was a very fat child until I was twenty one years old three years ago when I made the decision to lose weight. I believe that once I lost all of that weight, my clothes style changed completely. I had the freedom to go into a shop and to choose anything which gave me a big boost.
Nia: Do you think that your clothes are a reflection of your personality?
Elle: Yes. I think my clothes reflect the fact that I'm rather eccentric and conservative on the whole.
Nia: The first thing that strikes me is that your wardrobe is extremely tidy. Also, there is lots of pattern, mad things and lots of stripes.
Elle: Most of my shirts have stripes but I'm not particularly aware of why I've bought them. I think the reason is that I'm probably subconsiously aware that they make you look taller and slimmer. I don't have many short-sleeved shirts, it's very infrequent that I buy them - long-sleeved shirts are much smarter. But there are one or two lurking in here, like the flowery one which is foul! I bought it to go on holidays to Magaluf about two years ago and I'm not sure why it's still in my wardrobe actually!
Nia: So why is the shirt still in your wardrobe if you don't like it?
Elle: Maybe there's something sentimental about it but when I finally get round to buying a new short-sleeved shirt, this one's going straight to the charity shop!
Nia: How about these fantastic trousers?
Elle: I'm not quite sure why I bought them but they caught my eye at the time. I've worn them once or twice with a brown linen shirt and brown leather flip-flops. I think it's time for me to throw them out now which is a shame because they are very good quality and I paid enough for them. You are welcome to have them if you want them!
Elle: Music is one of my passions. I play the organ in the local chapel. It's quite an important part of my life. I conduct for a local choir so quite a lot of my time is spent on music.
Nia: What do you wear when you play the organ in the chapel?
Elle: I'm sure people would expect me to wear a tweed suit and shirt and tie but members of Bethesda Chapel at Llangennech would testify that there's no guessing what I'll be wearing from one week to another!
Nia: How about the shoes then? I'm sure it's important to have the right shoes?
Elle: There's a story behind the shoes I wear for playing the organ. I bought them in London and paid over £200 for them and are Prada, so I hope that members of the chapel appreciate that I wear Prada shoes whilst playing the organ!
Nia: Do you have a weakness for anything in particular be it shirts, trousers or shoes maybe? Is there anything you really like?
Elle: Well apart from shoes, I love coats, long coats usually. Recently, I bought a long cashmere camel coat and I'm sure people wonder what I'd do with a coat like this at my age. But I wear it to work in the Winter but I can also wear it over jeans or over a black poloneck or scarf.
I have a pair of shoes that I bought when I was at University. They were'nt very expensive and the shop had only one pair left. The last pair were three sizes to small for me. So, to fit into them, I made three cuts in them because I loved them. I still wear them at least once a week and I'd be lost without them.
Nia: I've spotted some Prada socks in your wardrobe!
Elle: I bought twenty pairs on e-bay for £12 and they are authentic and have not fallen from the back of some lorry! I haven't used them all yet.
Nia: Do you wash and iron all of your clothes?
Elle: I'm ashamed to say that I have a lady that comes over to take the dirty clothes away and return them neatly on hangers with plastic covers over them so that's great.
Geraint on clothes.......
I'd be lost without clothes. I sound like a very shallow person saying such a thing about something that's so material but they give me a thrill, and it's an interest. Not only for creating an image but I love to see how other people dress in magazines, anything aesthetic like that gives me a thrill.
