From the slate quarries of Blaenau Ffestiniog to celebrity-packed parties down in London, Glyn Wise’s appearance on Big Brother changed his life – and his style – completely.

What was your style like when you lived back in Blaenau Ffestiniog, before you appeared on Big Brother?

You know you’ve got the ‘cool club’ and one geek, well I was that geek! Most of the time, because I was in the sixth form, I was in my school uniform. I was head boy and in the year forum so I had to wear badges to show that. You were head girl too weren’t you? It’s a big responsibility! The other clothes I wore were ‘hand-me-downs’ from my cousin David. His clothes were really trendy so I loved it when his clothes got too small for him because I was able to wear them then!

I wore this shirt for the audition because I thought it would stand out. I rolled the sleeves up high and went to London for the first time. Someone mistook me for a rent boy – but I wanted to look sexy for the audition so I kept the shirt open and rolled the sleeves up!

This was the shirt I wore for the ‘to evict Glyn’ picture...I thought it was important to bring a Welsh element to the house and show that through my clothes.

How much influence did the other strong characters in the house have on your style?

Of course you had Mikey, Cesar, Grace and Imogen who had all modelled before. They had all been out on the scene in London and knew the best things to wear. I was like a country bumpkin to them – I’d only been out in Llanrwst! They were a big part of me growing up and discovering style. Like, they taught me how to rip my jeans and stuff.

We’ve seen the clothes you wore before Big Brother – but what’s your style like these days?

Well, it’s changed quite a lot. But when you go out in Gwynedd, it’s totally different to the style in London – London’s more upper class. I have to be careful what I say now – but I have to dress more posh and swanky when I’m in London, for example, if I go to an OK magazine party. It’s like a melting pot of celebrities and we all act as if we’re friends when we’re not really! When I go to parties like that, usually I wear a white shirt like one you’d wear under a tuxedo with a black jacket. I leave the collar open like James Bond! Then I’ve got this coat which I wore when I went to help the producers of Big Brother 9 choose who went into the house. I’ve tried to choose freaks, so it’s going going to be a freak show! They’re all interesting people, who are not all there. You’d be good!

This is the coat which I wore for my first photo shoot with Heat magazine. I wore it with a metal studded belt and these jeans I’ve got on.

So you’ve gone from your cousin’s hand-me-downs to getting clothes for free from Heat magazine! Does this mean you’ve found your own style now or do you feel a bit lost, as if people are choosing your style for you?

Yes, it’s a bit of a turnaround isn’t it? But I feel I’ve had a certain style given to me – and I like it. That’s how I see it.
