Gwilym is a young designer that likes to have a little fun with his style.

Do you enjoy the process of choosing different outfits?

I like to shop for new clothes and like putting different outfits together - different colours, different patterns - that kind of thing. Clothes that people wouldn't dream of putting together, I would. If they go together brilliant, if they don't I just throw them over my shoulder and move on to the next look.

Where does your interest in fashion come from?

I work as a graphic designer, and so through my work and my interest in design I think it's influenced my style. I like classic t-shirts like the I ♥ NY one. I also have the Rolling Stones one with the lips and the tongue sticking out. I work for a marketing company, so during the day I have to dress more soberly - shirt, black trousers and plain shoes. Colours like browns, black and white, quite natural colours really. Something casual but smart, then when I go out I change my look completely! The hair becomes huge and colours and scarves appear. I'm like Jekyll and Hyde!

What's so different about your style?

I wear a lot of colour and I love to accessorise with rings, cuffs and scarves. I can't leave the house without a cuff or something around my wrist - I feel naked without them.

What kind of clothes would you wear for a night out?

For a night out I'd wear something like a colourful shirt and a pair of red trousers. I don't wear my red trousers that often, but when I do it's quite epic really!

You're a big fan of music. Do you think that's influenced your style at all?

I'm not a huge fan of modern pop music to be honest; I think the 70s and 80s have had more of an influence on me. Stuff like glam-rock - David Bowie and T-Rex up to 80s bands such as Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Cult, The Cure and stuff like that. The way they dressed has also influenced my style, the big hair, skinny jeans, scarves - a flamboyant style!

Is there one person that you'd say was a style icon for you?

I remember when I was working at a previous job that I had to scan a picture of Rod Stewart. I also printed out the picture and stuck it on the office wall because I thought he looked amazing. His hair was massive! I looked at the picture and thought, that's it, that's my target!

What's people's reaction when they see your style?

The first thing they notice is my hair! A lot of girls come up to me telling me that they love my hair, but boys usually just tell me that I look like Russell Brand. It's something unique. My friends are never surprised with my style anymore. When I finished college I had my hair raven black and my grandmother said to me, "Hello Gwilym. Your hair looks nice. You look like Cher!"

You've got a lot of shoes. Are you a big shoe fan?

I'm always buying shoes - I think shoes can make an outfit look really great. What I like most about these black boots is the detailing on them. I think, because I'm a designer, that little details stand out for me, like the way the elastic on these boots are shaped like a lightning bolt and the pattern on the front of the boots. I also like the way that when they catch the light - the colour turns to bronze which is really cool.

These red and white boots are great. Where did you get these from?

These are boxing boots. I bought them from the Puma website. You can't buy them on the high street so I had to go online to get them. They're wicked!

Gwilym Cox

Which of these pairs of shoes is your favourite?

These are my favourite boots in the whole world. I've had them for years and they're wrecked. The soles have nearly worn through, and when they eventually do, I'm going to put a beermat there, just like a proper cowboy! They're brilliant. I paid £45 for them and they're so comfortable - my favourites!

Do you think your style is a part of your personality?

What I wear is who I am. It shows that I'm colourful, eccentric, but quite friendly, nice and bubbly - I just love life!
