Clothes and fabrics are the life of Jane Davies, fashion designer from Denbigh.
Nia: Did you ever imagine that your life would turn out this way?
Jane: Well yes really. When I was little, I loved dressing up and now when I reflect on what I actually do now it’s grown up dressing up really! We create amazing things here such as one-offs. When I see someone on the television, I think 'Gosh, I did that' so it’s so rewarding and it’s like a dream come true.
Nia: This is like any girl’s dream really isn’t it – a clothes wardrobe at work and at home. Do you take any of the items from your workplace back to your wardrobe at home sometimes?
Jane: I can if I want to but to be honest, I don’t fit into all of them. But, I’m very lucky because I can just make another version in my size if I want!
Nia: If somebody phoned you tonight and said that there was a party tonight, which dress would you choose to wear?
Jane: Some bling I think. Something girly and red as it’s my colour. Something like this dress as it’s really sassy and dramatic.
Nia: I notice that that you have a lot of red items in your wardrobe at home…
Jane: I love red. To me, red is a happy. This is an item of clothing that I’m actually unsure if it’s cool or uncool really! I wear this just for work or for shopping or to go to the supermarket to buy food.
Jane: This is completely over the top. A lot of people say that I look like Elmo from Sesame Street but I love it!
Jane: This is a fantastic suit. A simple shift dress which looks fantastic with pearls.
Nia: Do you have exclusive dresses for evening’s out then?
Jane: Yes. I’m the only one that has some designs. They’re completely exclusive. This is a party dress, I love it. It looks great with my red shoes and bright red lipstick!
Jane: This is my favourite evening dress. It’s nice with pink as there’s pink at the bottom of the dress. It’s a million dollar night kind of dress and I feel fantastic in it.
Jane: Another of my favourites as the colour is so dramatic (orange) but has such a simple shape to it. It’s very sentimental to me because I wore this one for a beach wedding and I remember walking along the beach with a champagne bottle in one hand and a glass in the other. There’s such a lovely movement to the fabric.
Nia: I know you enjoy your nights out and dressing up. An important part of dressing up, of course, is getting the right accessories so shoes and bags must be important and presumably not items that you make yourself?
Jane: Accessories are my weakness when I go shopping because I don’t make them myself. Bags and shoes are my little luxuries.
Jane: My red shoes are my dancing shoes, I feel fantastic in them!
Jane: These are gorgeous but I can hardly walk in them!
Nia: What would you say gives you the biggest thrill as far as clothes go?
Jane: Things like shoes, bags, dresses – dressing up really and seeing a whole look come together with the pinnacle of going out for the night. It’s lovely when Pete and I go out and he tells me I look fantastic!
