As an actor, image and style change from one character to the next for Julian Lewis Jones, but as one that is interested in clothes he also has his own personal style.

Julian on clothes...

I believe if you constantly change your clothes you have fewer roots, so I try and keep some even if I don't wear them any more.

As someone who is originally from Anglesey when did you interest in image and style begin?

When I was about sixteen and at the Tech in Bangor I realized that there was more to life than a bowl shaped hair cut and a parka. Then I had catalogues through the post, Kays and Freemans I think, and went through them looking for trendy clothes. Miami Vice was everywhere at the time, so I ordered tangerine slip-ons, a lemon and white cardigan and horrible things like that! I ordered all the clothes in my mothers name because I was not eighteen. Then I'd make sure that my mother was out when they were delivered by Parcel Force or someone. So, that's where it all started, at the Tech College in Bangor in 1984!

Your shirts are all patterned and flowery.

Yes, this one's retro. I bought that one when I was in London performing 'The Caretaker', a drama by Harold Pinter, in Greenwich. I bought some of these new shirts after filming. It's one of the perks of the job as an actor, if you have an outfit or costume that you like while filing, you can then buy them at a discount price.

You like fishing don't you? Is there any fashion in Sea fishing?

Yes, it's something that I've been doing since I was thirteen. It's something of interest where you have to wear practical clothes. You can't wear your designer clothes to go sea fishing. Fashion? Maybe for one or two people, I don't know. I never think that I'm fashionable when I go fishing because catching fish is my main priority.

What does your clothes collection mean to you?

Um, some items mean more than others probably. But overall my clothes are practical especially since I've had children; now I can't be too precious about anything.
