Juliet Revell comes from Indonesia originally. But, she has lived in Pembrokeshire for a number of years now. Juliet wears Western clothes for daywear but she has a number of Chinese dresses by the designer Suzi Wong as well as an impressive collection of sarongs...

Juliet: I'm in love with Wales. I met my husband, Gareth, in Indonesia. We married in Indonesia but came here to live.

Nia: When you were growing up in Indonesia, do you have lots of memories of the clothes and materials? Do you remember going shopping to buy them?

Juliet: Yes, I have lots of happy memories of being with my Grandmother, my Mother and everybody. It's lovely. I remember going shopping with them to the markets to buy sarongs.

Nia: What kind of clothes do you like?

Juliet: For a traditional event, a Kebaya sarong or maybe a Chinese outfit, a dress by Suzi Wong maybe. These are batik sarongs and Java batik. I have some batik ones from Bali too which are more colourful but the Java ones are brown and white.

Nia: Are there any sarongs here that have a personal or emotional attachment?

Juliet: Yes, this sarong used to be my Grandmother's which she wore for her wedding. I don't wear this one, I just keep it to remember her.

Juliet Revell

Juliet: This is one that's known as a 'morning and afternoon' sarong because you'd wear the bright, colourful side in the morning and then swap to the darker and calmer colours for the evening.

Nia: Do you miss Indonesia?

Juliet: I used to, but I don't by now because I'm so happy here in Wales.

Juliet on clothes...
Clothes are important to me especially to show that I'm from Indonesia.
