Designer Christian Loubutin's shoes are enough to make your mouth water, but only the wealthy, famous or extremely lucky are able to wear them. Famous for their red soles, these shoes are often seen treading the red carpet.

Elen Davies from Cardiff is one of those few people lucky enough to own a pair.

Have you bought your Christian Loubutin shoes for a special occasion?

Elen: My friend is getting married next month, and I needed a new pair- well actually, I wanted a new pair for the wedding! I walked into the shop and I had to buy both pairs because I couldn't decide which ones I wanted! They're exactly the same. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep both pairs yet, but it's very tempting! I was sweating buckets and had palpitations as I left the shop because they're so expensive- but what's a girl to do?!

Buying shoes as special as these must be an experience, not like buying an ordinary pair of shoes...

Yes it is! You get to sit on a nice, comfy sofa, and they bring you champagne or make you a coffee- whatever you want and you see all these celebs coming and going. It's a totally amazing experience.

The red sole is something really special. Louboutin himself says that it is more than just a colour, it's a symbol of passion or love.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. I think that when any woman puts on a pair of high heels, you feel a little bit more special, and a little bit more feminine. When I wear these, I feel I have some sort of power. Your shoulders go back, and your head is held high, it's something that appeals to me, and makes me feel a little more special. I buy them for me and no one else.

What kind of relationship do you have with your Louboutins?

I love them! There isn't another word for it. I keep them in their boxes, with the dust bags over them. Sometimes I'll go to my wardrobe and take them out of their box just to look at them- they always bring a smile to my face and bring back very happy memories.

Lisa Jên Brown bought a pair of Louboutins to wear on her wedding day.

What's the story behind these Louboutin shoes?

Lisa: When I was trying to think what I was going to wear on my wedding day, I decided that I wanted a pair of Jimmy Choo's, because if there's any occasion when I can buy expensive shoes, it has to be for my wedding day. When I went to Harvey Nicks to look at the Jimmy Choo's I didn't like any of them, they were too strappy and too dainty for a girl who has big country feet like I do. So I turned to the Louboutins and tried on a pair and I thought, Wow! I asked the saleswoman, and she said that there wasn't a pair in pink available in the whole of Europe as they were all sold out. Luckily I have a friend who is the head of PR at Agent Provocateur, who happens to know the head of PR at Christian Louboutin and she was able to get me this pair from the catwalk, which means that a model somewhere has worn them before me! It also meant that I paid £200 instead of £400-500 for them!

How did you feel on the morning of your wedding wearing these shoes?

Like gold, I was overjoyed. The heel is high, but they make your legs look longer. I wore them on my wedding day, not that you could see them because my dress was so long, but I knew that I was wearing them. I wore them from eleven o'clock in the morning, until two o'clock the following morning, but I couldn't walk for a month afterwards.

Why do you think these shoes are so iconic by now?

The red sole is a stamp that no one else has. And when I see a little speck of red I get exited and think to myself "oh Louboutin!" They also do something very special to the leg, and you feel special wearing them. They're very pretty and in a way you feel very pretty wearing them.

What does the future hold for your Laboutins?

I've heard that you can send your shoes away so that the soles can be repainted red, but I don't think that I'd want that because these shoes have a history and a story to tell. My wedding day was one of the best days of my life, so I think that I'll leave them as they are.
