Maureen, wife of the world-famous rygbi player Gareth Edwards, is a very fashionable lady.

There's something so nice about looking through old photos isn't there? Here's a picture of your wedding, you look so glamorous... and Gareth doesn't look bad either...

Yes, that was 36 years ago. Long hair was very fashionable in the seventies!

Maureen Edwards

And where did you get the dress?

I bought it from a shop called Mamens in Cardiff, I went in, saw it and bought it straight away. I wanted something quite plain, no veil or train or anything, something simple.

Maureen Edwards

And it's still so white...

I don't think it's ever been washed. It's kept quite well really. I don't think I could get into it any more!

Maureen Edwards

Has anyone else worn the dress?

When my son Rhys and Eirlys were getting married a couple of years ago, I asked Eirlys to try the dress on, and she looked so pretty. But of course, Rhys said 'It looks old-fashioned and you have to get something else'. And he was telling the truth, because the one she had was spectacular. I asked her 'What do you want me to wear to the wedding?' and she said she liked pastel colours. So a crew of us went down to London and I saw this suit on the mannequin in the shop. I said 'There it is', and then I bought it, together with a bodice top from Karen Millen and the fascinator from Cowbridge. I love wearing hats.

What about this turquoise outfit?

This is the outfit I wore to Rhian and Owen's wedding last year. And to tell you the truth, I wanted to wear something cream and brown because they were her colours, but I couldn't find anything. So I asked her if she would mind me wearing a bright colour like this, though I never normally wear them. I really fell for this outfit and I bought it straight away. I like to buy clothes I know I'm going to get a lot of wear out of.

Maureen Edwards

Where are you in this picture?

This is in front of Buckingham Palace. We were there to see Gareth receiving his CBE.

Maureen Edwards

And what did you wear for the special occasion?

A bit of a mish-mash. A coat I picked up over in the Mumbles, and I already had the trousers. Believe it or not, I got the hat in Marks and Spencers! But two of us had the same hat! Luckily, she'd worn it differently to me, so it didn't matter to either of us! It was such a lovely day it really didn't matter what you were wearing because it was an unforgettable experience.

Maureen Edwards

All through your life, you've loved clothes haven't you?

Well, when I was a little girl growing up in Gwaun Cae Gurwen I was one of five children and wore hand-me-downs. For years I just wore what someone else had already worn before, and I didn't mind. Then a new shop came to Swansea called C&A. The prices were reasonable and the shop was popular in our area because we could afford to buy stuff there. Someone made up the name 'Cuthberts & Alison's', one of the girls from the village I think, so when someone said 'Www, where did you get those trousers?' we'd answer 'Oh, from a shop called Cuthberts & Alison's'! But it was C&A really!

Does dressing youthfully go hand in hand with feeling youthful?

I don't want to dress too young. I don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb. I think I know what I can wear. But it doesn't really matter does it? You should wear what you want to wear. Quite often when I'm in the garden I'll be in a tracksuit and I'm not bothered about wearing wellies and a tracksuit to go and get some milk...

Maureen Edwards

Are there any other outfits which stand out in your memory?

Last year it was my sixtieth birthday and the six of us went for a meal. I sent a picture of the six of us to my mother-in-law and she loved it. She said 'Thanks for the picture, but that frock is horrible on you, I don't like that at all.' She speaks her mind! I replied 'Oh well, okay!'. Not everyone likes it, but I like wearing it and the fabric is really nice too.

Maureen Edwards

You also like to wear jeans don't you?

Yes, these were another gift last year.

Maureen Edwards

Not many women get a pair of Rock & Republic jeans for their sixtieth birthday...good on you Maureen! And what about these Gina shoes?

We used to have this wonderful shop in Porthcawl in the eighties, and I just fell in love with this shocking pink colour with the navy. We had a wedding to go to and so I bought the shoes, but in the end I couldn't find anything to go with the shoes so I had to buy a different outfit. Eventually I got a dress that matched them exactly, and I wore them together for years and years. I can't find the dress at the moment – it's here somewhere! I didn't know I had a pair of Ginas, so when I saw how much they cost now I got a shock!

Maureen Edwards

As a rugby wife, I'm sure you've done your share of standing in the freezing cold pitch-side or in a stadium. I expect you've got lots of warm coats?

A warm coat is very important when you're watching the rugby. I found this one in Marks and Spencers. It's very comfortable and feels like having a warm blanket wrapped around you.

I bought this pink mac in the Somerfield supermarket in Porthcawl! It was only seven pounds! It's lovely, and every time I wear this coat, if I wear it with black, people say something about it. And I tell them where I got it! I told one woman and she went down to buy one for herself and one for her friend!

Maureen Edwards

So do you think you'll still be shopping, still spending and wearing Rock and Republic jeans when you're eighty?

Oh, I hope so!

Maureen Edwards

Yey! You are so glam! I want to be like you when I'm sixty!

Well thank you very much!
