Holding down two jobs is never easy, and this is especially true in the case of Meri Huws. As both Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Wales Bangor and Chair of the Welsh Language Board, the first female to be appointed to both roles, her working week as she herself freely admits now occupies all seven days. This, one may imagine, would leave her little time to worry about clothes, let alone find the time to shop - yet this couldn't be further from the truth, and Meri's appearance has by now become her trademark.

Meri on her working wardrobe...
At the moment I'm doing two jobs. The working week it seems, has been extended to the full seven days. I'm Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wales here in Bangor, which is an incredible challenge I have to say, because this is the first time a woman has done the job. So with regards to clothes I tend to walk that fine line between being respectful and being myself. And then of course I'm also Chair of the Welsh Language Board, which is quite a public position. One thing that has struck me since I started the job is that I can't wear the same outfit from one day to the next, so it is quite a challenge to strike a blance between the Meri Huws who's in a respectable suit and the Meri Huws who's still a bit of a rebel.

Do you have a favourite colour?
Dark brown and black, for every occasion.
What kind of clothes do you wear?
Over time I think I've become a lot more radical in the shapes that I wear. And my clothes have become much more traditional, more similar to the clothes of the early 20th Century, and of course, the gothic element is there as well.
Meri on her favourite dress...
This dress is very important. It belonged to my mother, I'd say from the 50s. And someone starts to wonder what was a girl from Henllan doing with a dress like this.
Do you still wear it?
Yes, on special occasions, like the party thrown for my dad when he retired, and the day of my second wedding of course. This is the dress I wore that day.
Do you have any fashion tips?
Don't fall into the pages of Hello! Magazine and start thinking that you have to dress like everybody else. Wear what you're comfortable in, and if that means wearing black all day every day, well fine.
