For years, Owen Powell's obsession was to be part of a successful band. This dream was realized when he joined Catatonia, who enjoyed worldwide chart-topping success.. After realizing his dream he has now returned to Cardiff where he lives with his partner Sarah and their son Herbie.

These days he has another obsession lurking in his closet...

It's funny because when we look back at old family photos, my brother always calls me 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' because I always looked neat and tidy while my brother looked as if he were dragged through a hedge backwards!

Owen Powell

You're so tidy! Look at all those hangers - the same distance between all of them, all of them pointing the same way...

I am really tidy. The same direction, the same distance. I sometimes think that it's wrong for a bloke from south Wales to be this fussy, and I know that it's not quite right, that it's a bit of an obsession, a bit of a compulsion on my part.

Owen on jeans...

I never wear anything other than jeans, and the whole outfit depends on the kind of jeans I wear. I bought these jeans second-hand. I don't think they'd ever been washed and I didn't wash them before wearing them and I still haven't washed them - and I've had them for two years!

Owen has lived a rock-star's existence with Catatonia for two years so maybe one has to forgive him for his dirty jeans!

When Catatonia began we were all unemployed. We lived in Roath and got our clothes from charity shops on Clifton Street, so anything you saw Cerys wearing during that time was second-hand, she'd never have dreamed of buying anything new. But as we became more successful and had to do photo shoots and videos, stylists would come in and buy clothes for us. Suddenly you had the chance to phone up the big companies and ask for this or that, and ask if you could get it for free, and they'd give them to us, clothes, trainers, coats - everything.

Owen on Versace...

This is a suede jacket by Versace and it's one of the strangest things that ever happened to Catatonia! At the time International Velvet was number one in the UK Album Charts and Versace was doing a show in Milan and they asked us to perform in the show. They closed their flagship store in Milan for us and gave each of us our very own shop assistant to choose an outfit for the show. But that was their way of making sure we were wearing Versace, otherwise Donatella would've had a fit!

Do you have a favourite decade in fashion?

The Seventies I think, because the Eighties were full of fashion hazards for men and women. I'm not quite sure what I was doing in the 80s but I remember buying a pair of green slippers and thinking I looked like Ian McCulloch from Echo and the Bunnymen, who was a bit of a fashion icon at the time.
