Looking through Shelah Eakins's wardrobe is like stepping back to the 60s or 70s...
Shelah: I used to dress up to make myself feel good, I always liked to look nice, and I liked people saying how pretty I looked and the same thing is true now. I like dressing up, going out and feeling great!
Shelah: When I was a teenager, I used to sew my clothes and knitted my jumpers. I used to buy nice material for sewing my own clothes.
Nia: After you were married and settled, were clothes still important to you?
Shelah: Yes. I used to go out every Saturday and buy clothes for going out. I used to work hard and I began a guesthouse for students and summer visitors so there was enough money coming in. By then, I could afford to buy my own clothes rather than having to make them.
Nia: Have you kept a lot of clothes?
Shelah: Yes. I've probably kept the favourites that maybe have a story or two attached to them. I have a memory to go with each dress. They were also expensive which is another reason why I've kept hold of them.
Nia: This original 60's dress is amazing!
Shelah: A friend from the Mumbles made this one for me. She made a number of dresses for me, but this is the only one I've kept.
Nia: And special boots and gloves to go with it?!
Shelah: Yes! I used to wear the dress, boots and gloves to go to 'Langrove Country Club' and maybe for lunch at 'Keswell Bay' and I felt 'IT' when i wore the whole outfit!
Shelah: I bought this black dress from a little shop in Swansea called 'Monica's'. Monica used to go away to Italy, Spain and France to buy clothes and I bought this one from her. There's a photograph of me wearing the dress at Swansea Rugby Club with Gareth Edwards. I was very lucky to have a photo taken with him!
Shelah: I bought this colourful dress from Cardiff. Everybody who knows me, recognises this dress because I've worn it every New Year's Eve for the past fifteen years. Although it has elements of eighties design such as the ra-ra, low waist, shoulder pads, these things are coming back to fashion now.
Shelah: Golf is an important part of my life. I play golf with the girls every Tuesday morning before having lunch together in the afternoon.
Nia: Do you know exactly what you're looking for when shopping?
Shelah: Yes, because I know what suits me.
Shelah on clothes...
Friends say to me that I buy clothes that are different and ask where I buy them, and I'm happy to tell them.
