Losing mum or dad

Losing a parent or someone close to you is very hard. It can happen because of an illness or an accident. Nothing can really prepare you for it. It can mean that you life changes forever, and it can be difficult to let go of feelings of sadness and loss. However, it is something which we all have to face at some point in our lives, and it is an inevitable part of growing up.

When you can, it's important to try and talk about your feelings with others. Grief is a journey and some of the sites and helplines listed here could help you along the way.

    One of the main charities which support those who've lost a child or to support children if they've lost a loved one.

    RD4U

    A service to help you come to terms with loss, they offer a helpline so you can talk, as well as an email service and message boards. Loads of information to help you on the site.

    Cruse Bereavement Cymru

    Cruse Bereavement Cymru is a service offering counselling, information and support to anyone who has been bereaved. It has ten groups in Wales and bereavement counselling, telephone and children's counselling are provided by carefully selected, trained volunteers. Phone them or go to their website for more information, including details of your local group.

    If your under 18 and worried about anything, you can get help day or night by phoning Childline Cymru for free or by going to their website for more information about how they can help you. The adults who answer your calls are there to help you with any problem in your life. If you're hard of hearing, you can also use a text phone on the number given.

    A web channel with a wealth of information about all kinds of subjects for those between 11-25 years old, living in Wales. This includes what's on, your health, education and other important topics as you grow up.

    TheSite.org is a well established website and online community which covers many topics of interest from advice on drugs, alcohol and addiction to help with unplanned pregnancy or if you parents are splitting up. Advice also if you've lost someone close. It's full of stories, message boards and comments and advice on everything. Appropriate helpline referrals for each topic are given throughout.
