Cymru Fach
Love and lust, passion and promiscuity, vanity and vengeance, gluttony and greed... A satirical adaption of the theatre play focusing on various aspects of the Welsh community.
The black comedy Cymru Fach (Little Wales) is a film version of the successful stage play of the same name by Wiliam Owen Roberts that was well received when staged by Sgript Cymru in 2006.
In the film, viewers will see love and lust, vanity and vengeance, gluttony and greed in a society where everyone seems to know someone…who seems to know someone.
The film, produced by Boom Films, brings together a stellar cast. Aneirin Hughes, Steffan Rhodri, Nicola Beddoe, Gareth Pierce, Lowri Gwynne, Sioned Wyn, Rhys ap Trefor, Caitlin Richards, Victoria Pugh and Gwyn Vaughan play the 'network of lovers' in the tangled world that is 'little Wales'.
The film takes a very different form to the customary film format as it is made up of ten individual scenes, cleverly linked by the fact that one character from each scene moves on to the next.
Every scene focuses on a sexual relationship and through the characters, the author takes a withering look at aspects of contemporary Welsh society. The media, education and political worlds all take a hit in the play.
The film, produced by Jon Williams and directed by Gruffydd Davies, has been shot on location in Bangor, Caernarfon, Llanberis, Aberystwyth, Mold, Swansea and Cardiff.
With the internationally-renowned film director Marc Evans as its executive producer, it has an edgy, contemporary feel. The sound track, which includes songs by Y Cyrff, Pep Le Pew, Y Rei, Jakokoyak, Gwilym Morus and Datblygu among others, adds to the atmosphere.
