Programme History
Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol is a Welsh language spiritual and church music programme, which has been broadcast consistently since 1961.
The first programme was recorded at Trinity Chapel, Swansea, and the first presenter was the Revd. Morgan Mainwaring. It is interesting to note that the success of this first series gave birth to the English programme Songs of Praise.
Since 1961 the series has travelled the length and breadth of Wales, and also a little further afield. Presenters have included Robin Williams, Rhys Jones, John Stewart Roberts and Meurwyn Williams.
S4C assumed responsibility for the programme in 1991 and currently Avanti, a production company located in Porth in the Rhondda, produces the show.
