Rhys Meirion

Rhys Meirion

Originally from Porthmadog, Gwynedd, Rhys Meirion began his career as headteacher at Pentrecelyn Primary School, Rhuthun, before beginning training as a professional singer. In 1997 he undertook an Opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before joining the English National Opera in 1999. Rhys has sang all over the world, in countries such as Australia, Germany, Argentina and China, and has also released several CDs, including Benedictus with Bryn Terfel, which was nominated for a Classical Brit Award in 2006. Rhys will join the Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol team in September 2011 ready for the new series.
