Omlet

Angharad Austin, the main character in Omlet, the film based on the novel of the same name by Nia Medi, is a thirty-something single gal with an eventful personal life. She's known for her romantic disasters, but is still a woman who knows how to enjoy herself - how to have a laugh and enjoy the company of her friends.

Tipyn o Stad actress Delyth Eirwyn, who plays Angharad, also experienced a range of emotions during the production of the film, which was shot on location in Greece and north Wales.

"It's been one of the best experiences of my career," says the actress, originally from the village of Llanddeusant on Anglesey, but now living in Cardiff.

"It's a girlie film, and as a crew we were a band of women together. The director and producers were women. We women were in control, and were able to create a relaxed atmosphere on set. And while Nia, the author, took a step back and let us just be, we all felt her support.

"And I must say that I've got a friend for life in Olwen Rees, who plays Angharad's aunt, Dodo Megan. She's such a lovely person and a fine actress. That gives you confidence and enables you to relax and enjoy the work. Since Angharad is in almost every scene, I felt a responsibility towards the whole film. I wanted to be true to the character that Nia had created."

But there were emotional times too. "There are some sad scenes in Omlet, and I cried a lot during filming. I usually have to rely on a tear stick to be able to cry on set, but in Omlet I was able to cry straight away, because I'd really got under the skin of the character. While filming several sad scenes on the last day I burst into tears - it was the emotion of the moment."

It's possible Delyth was sad because she was also going to miss the company of the two actors whose characters feature in Angharad's love life – the "Drong" and Arfon. Julian Lewis Jones - Mike Powell in Caerdydd and Tom Beresford in Where the Heart Is - and Gareth Bryn, who has acted in numerous TV productions as well as West End shows such as Mamma Mia and Acorn Antiques, brought the characters to life on screen, and Delyth has enjoyed working with both of them.

"It's been interesting working with two people who are so completely different to each other," she explains. "Gareth is a reserved person while Julian wears his heart on his sleeve. They really suit the characters they're playing. And they've both got completely different acting techniques which is also interesting."

Omlet was filmed in the Gwynedd seaside town of Cricieth, and on the Greek island of Santorini.

"Santorini was lovely," says Delyth. "It's such a romantic place. Every scene we shot looked fantastic. And the Greek man Angharad meets there on holiday is also drop dead gorgeous. It's worth watching the film just to see him!"
