Y Rhwyd

Y Rhwyd (The Net), a tense thriller based on the novel by the same name by Caryl Lewis, tells the story of an outwardly respectable married father-of-two, who indulges in 'dangerous liaisons' with women he meets on the Internet.

Meic seems to have it all – a loving wife, Eirlys, and two beautiful children, Beca and Jac. He has a comfortable home, a job he loves and a good friend in Paul – but it's not enough, and he secretly contacts women on the internet.

One girl he meets, Miss X, changes his life, and things go from bad to worse. But is it Miss X who finally brings about Meic's downfall or is someone else's hand slowly drawing the net tightly around him?

The film stars a number of well-known faces, including Geraint Morgan – Hywel in drama series Teulu - who plays Meic, and Mali Harries - Kate in Caerdydd - who plays his wife Eirlys.

Caryl came up with the idea for the story after reading an article about married men who meet women on the internet.

"I did quite a bit of research," said the author from Aberaeron who lives near Aberystwyth. "I then began to think about the secret lives that people lead and believe they can control. But things can go very wrong, and when that happens, things start to unravel quickly."

Caryl adapted her own work for the screen, and even though it's a totally different process from writing a novel, she thoroughly enjoyed the work.

"I liked working on the film adaptation because writing can be a lonely job at times. It's nice to work with other people and see them bring their expertise to the project."

An adaptation of another of Caryl's novels, Martha, Jac a Sianco, will be broadcast on S4C over Christmas. The background of the two novels is very different.

"I don't want to be pigeon-holed as an author. The two novels, one based in a city and the other, in the countryside, are a way of giving my work some variety.
