ABOUT COMFORT FOOD
COMFORT FOOD AND GENDER
There is a belief that men and women ultimately crave different comfort foods. Whether this is strictly true is by the by, but a train of thought suggests that men seek hearty meals for comfort food whilst women tend to opt for snacks that require very little or no preparation.
Many might disagree with this assertion but the argument behind it is that men find comfort in foods that are associated with those that have been prepared for them by the homemaker - that is, mothers, wives, girlfriends and so on. These foods are usually warm home-cooked meals such as roast dinners, soups, stews and so on.
Women, on the other hand, are said to associate such foods with toil because, due to the role of women in bygone years, they were the ones who usually prepared the meals and werent so accustomed to having meals prepared for them. Consequently, they would not then derive the same comfort or satisfaction from the same food.
This is said to be the reason why adult women are the most inclined to snack on chocolate, cakes and crisps simply because this food is not labour-intensive. Most would argue against this opinion but the fact of the matter remains that women between the ages of 25-44 consume an estimated two-thirds of all chocolate produced.
