This week Heledd Cynwal goes to see Sam Jarrett. She moved from England to Wales when she was young and she learnt Welsh. Sam is a Welsh teacher in Caerphilly. She wants to know more about the Jarrett family. She wants to know if her family comes from Wales originally.
Sam goes to the National Library to see Jason Evans from the Perthyn team. He’s found the Jarrett family living in Trawsfynydd in the 18th century. The family had a lot of money.
Sam goes to Trawsfynydd to see where the Jarretts used to live. She finds Richard Jarrett’s grave. He was her great, great, great, great, great grandfather. The family bought a shop in Trawsfynydd and opened a pharmacy. Some of the Jarrett family lived in Traswfynydd until the 1950s
Sam goes to see John Iscoed Williams who lives in the area. He remembers the Jarrett family living in the area. The family were very good business people and they were very important in the community.
Sam wants to know why her family went to England. Jarrett Richard Jarret, Sam’s great, great, great, grandfather went to live in Llangadfan. He married and has children. John Owen Jarrett, Sam's great, great grandfather, was one of the children but he went to live with his uncle, Richard Owen. Why did he go to live with his uncle?
Sam goes to see the local historian Alwyn Hughes. Jarrett Richard Jarret and his wife died of TB ac their son, John Owen Jarrett went to live with his uncle, Richard Owen in the Cann Office. Richard Owen was a very kind man. He gave money to the poor in the area.
John Owen Jarrett went to work as an apprentice when he was 16 years old in England. After 10 years he went to work in Battersea, London.
The Perthyn team have found the Welsh members of the Jarrett family. They live in Trawsfynydd today. Sam goes back to Trawasfynydd to see two brothers, David and Glyn from the Jarrett family.
Jason from the Perthyn team has found more information about John Owen Jarrett. In 1891 he lived in Birmingham. Sam is happy because she has learnt Welsh and she didn’t know her family came from Wales.
