Russia’s varied landscape is home to a vast array of wildlife and plant life. Presenter Iolo Williams is now half way through his journey through the country.
Dyma Siberia. This is Siberia. It covers ten per cent of the world’s surface and is one of the coldest areas in the world.
In these mynyddoedd (mountains) you’ll find some of the largest defaid (sheep) in the world.
In the middle of these mountains is Llyn (Lake) Baikal. This is the deepest llyn in the world. It extends for 300 miles.
The shores of Llyn Baikal are home to eirth (bears).
Yn y gaeaf (in winter), most of Llyn Baikal is frozen.
Here where Afon Angara (the Angara river) flows through the llyn, the temperature is higher
The warmer water provides a home for birds like these hwyaid (ducks) who dive under the water for food.
In the coedwigoedd (woods) around the lake the rare mwsg-garw (musk deer) live. They are endangered as their musk glands can be used for making perfume.
In these woods too bleiddiaid (wolves) wander. They don’t hibernate so they are always hunting for food.
