My heart was set on playing cricket but I wasn’t good enough. I had the opportunity to appear in a number of school plays and I enjoyed the experience very much. One thing led to another.
What was your first role?
Professionally I got a role in ‘Bowen a’i Bartner’ when I was in the sixth form (1986). I thought I’d arrived!
What role would you like to play (Cymraeg (Welsh) or Saesneg (English)?
I’m too old to play Hamlet now! Thank goodness.
Who is your favourite actor?
On a National Youth Theatre of Wales course in 1985 I remember watching Michael Sheen and thinking ‘that’s how to do it’.

Hywel is a hard working and conscientious meddyg (doctor) but since the Teulu’s great secret came out into the open his personal life has become very complicated.
How are you different to your character?
I would never have passed the exams to be a doctor.
What’s the best thing about acting in the series Teulu?
An endearing crew and cast. Aberaeron is very nice too – especially if it’s fine.
What do you do to relax?
I’m fond of painting water colour but it is difficult to get the opportunity with children stealing the paper. Coginio (cooking), rhedeg (running), nofio (swimming), darllen (reading)..
Are you a person gwyrdd (green person)?
I’m not consistent enough to call myself ‘gwyrdd’ but I compost!
