This week Aled and Alex go on self catering holidays in Wales. Holidays like this are very popular today because they can be very cheap.
Aled and Alex stay in Ruthlin Barn near the village of Ynysgynwraidd (Skenfrith) in Monmouthshire. There are four bedrooms and a very large living room there. This accommodation is perfect for large groups of people, families and couples.
You can buy food from the local farm shop. They sell lots of local produce here – meat, fruit, vegetables, cheese and cider.
Aled goes on a self catering holiday in Caernarfon. First, he travels around the area in a small plane from Caernarfon airport. He gets the area’s history from the pilot.
In the airport there’s a museum and cinema. Here you can learn about the history of the planes from the Second World War up to today.
Aled stays in the Bath Tower. This tower is a part of the wall which goes around Caernarfon town and it is 800 years old. The Landmark Trust looks after the tower.
Aled also goes to Caernarfon castle and the Eagle Tower. They started building the castle in 1283 and it cost over 20,000 pounds.
Aled and Alex stay in wood cabins in Trefeglwys, 4 miles from Llanidloes. The cabins come from Finland. They are very luxurious.
They go to the ‘Mid Wales Off Road’ centre. Here they drive the go-karts and the JCBs. You can also go paintballing here.
Near Trefynwy is Anchre Hill vineyard. They’ve been growing grapes here for 10 years. You can go on a tasting course here and in the summer there are cheese and wine evenings here.
