S4C shows off some of Wales's best locations

100 Lle returns to S4C on Tuesday night, 16 August, to guide us around more fantastic locations throughout Wales. The series is based on the book 'Wales: 100 places to see before you die', by historian Dr John Davies and photographer Marian Delyth, which won the 'Book of the Year' title in 2010.

The programme's presenter, Aled Samuel, says, "If the book has done anything, it has successfully brought Welsh people closer to Wales, and has revealed to us the wonders we were perhaps too blind to see before."

In the first edition on Tuesday night, 16 August, Aled will be visiting Harlech, Portmeirion, Welshpool, Montgomery and Pennant Melangell. He will be speaking to Dr John Davies and Marian Delyth about their reasons for choosing these places.

Marian will be explaining how she was inspired to capture such beautiful photos of Portmeirion village, and her personal feelings towards the place.

"You could spend days on end wandering along the pathways and exploring the hidden corners of the village and I couldn't think of anything better to do. I always think of the place like a small island off the Mediterranean Sea hidden in the heart of Eifionydd; it's a gem of a place."

Accompanied by Dr John Davies, Aled will visit a number of majestic castles, including Harlech, Powis and Montgomery. We'll hear the drama and troubles behind every castle, as well as the royal and political histories connected to these buildings.

"It could be argued that the castle and the old Rhyd Chwima mound is not the main attraction in this area," says Dr John Davies about Montgomery castle. "The main splendour is the town of Montgomery itself, which has been nestling peacefully in this green corner of Montgomeryshire for centuries."

The following week, the programme will visit South Wales. We'll travel to Caerphilly Castle and Castell Coch, go on a visual journey to Pontypridd and enjoy a visit to St Fagans: National History Museum and Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff.
