Prydferthwch Perig

By MC Saizmundo

Tonnau gwyn yn taro
ar draethau melyn eldorado
pob dim yn llonydd a digyffro
dyma’r colur dros y celwydd
dyma’r nefoedd dros nesa’r newyn
awyr las a gwyn di’r ewyn
Dyma’r gagendor mawr ei hun
yn llyncu pobl dros y dibyn
Ma’r nefoedd yn fflamiau
a’r cymylau’n hel ac yn amlhau
wrth i’r tywydd ddechrau cau.
Does na’m byd perig yn y byd mi
wn na dyn yn mynd o gwmpas yn
chwifio’r gwn
mwg yn codi, drygioni yn ffynnu
sŵn gynnau yn saethu, rhyfel
yn chwyrnu
yn y paradwys ffŵl, weli di
ddrewdod yn cronni
cymunedau dan warchae a’r
byd yn gwylio
miloedd wedi mwrdro a’r cyffur
yn waed ar ei dwylo
arian yn llifo wrth i’r ddinas ffrwydro.

Welsh rapper MC Saizmundo, the alter ego of satirist Deian ap Rhisiart, follows in the footsteps of the great Welsh poet T.H. Parry-Williams (1887—1975) in this unique documentary.

Deian retraces Parry-Williams’ 1925 journey to the heart of darkness, to Central and South America. Fearing that his muse had deserted him, Parry-Williams embarked on the epic trip in a bid to find fresh inspiration.

The journey - from Cuba, Panama, Chile, Argentina and Brazil - in that time, was a world away from being a tourist stereotype. Deian grew up in Llanuwchllyn, but with his father's roots in the Nantlle Valley, T. H. Parry Williams' area, there was a clear place for the bard's work in the family home.

Deian is fascinated by the story and in particular by the fact that a poet so passionate about Wales chose to travel such a distance. Deian takes the poet’s travel diaries as the basis for his journey, comparing Parry-Williams’ experiences with his own, eighty years on.

“I thought it was strange, that a guy obsessed with his home country has to go to the other side of the world to search for inspiration," Deian explains.

Archive sound and images are used throughout the three part series, to compare Parry-Williams' experiences in 1925 with Deian's personal experiences today.
