O'r Galon: Cymar Oes

With St Valentine's Day soon upon us, the documentary series O'r Galon asks, 'What's the secret of a happy marriage?'

In an age when a smaller percentage of people choose to get married than at any time in the last hundred years, O'r Galon: Cymar Oes (From the heart: A Companion for Life) compares the life stories of three couples from different areas of Wales.

The stories of three couples

Noah and Nansi Miles have been married for nearly 67 years. The couple are now in their nineties but their love is as strong as ever.

They live in the village of Garnswllt near Ammanford and in the programme they talk of fond memories of their honeymoon in Aberystwyth in 1944.

Allan and Brenda Jones of Llanllyfni, Dyffryn Nantlle, Gwynedd met in a night club some 25 years ago and it was a case of love at first sight.

Theirs is an example of a robust marriage - they could never have foreseen all the bridges they would have to cross in later years.

Brenda almost lost her life giving birth to her second son, Carl, and in 2009, Allan suffered a serious accident while driving his lorry to London.

Rhys and Rhian Jones met at work in Cardiff before deciding four years later to spend the rest of their lives together. The young couple have only been married a few months but with Rhys working as a policeman, a few matters are preying on his wife's mind.

After moving to the Llanrwst area in North Wales for the sake of Rhys's career, the two realise that compromise is at the heart of a successful marriage. And travelling all the way to Rome by train with someone who's afraid of flying is a good example of this!
