O'r Galon: Bwrw Bol

Betsan Rees is a successful stylist who’s worked on the blockbuster film Gladiator and the TV series Footballers Wives, as well as with American Vogue magazine and the Wales rugby team. But in an emotional documentary this week she embarks on a personal journey to conquer both her weight problem and her complex issues with food.

32 year-old Betsan from Trebanos, near Swansea, has faced personal tragedy in her life. Her brother and father have died, and her mother has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Weighing 23 stone, Betsan finally reached rock bottom after being refused gastric bypass surgery which would involve stapling her stomach.

“I had no hope. My weight was affecting every area of my life – my social life, my health, my relationships,” she says.

Betsan decided to take action, and started working with a personal trainer and therapist to see if her never-ending cycle of comfort eating, weight gain and crash dieting could be broken.

Programme producer Nia Parry is proud of what Betsan has achieved during the making of the documentary. “This is Betsan’s story. It’s her voice that we hear throughout the programme,” she says.
