Wynebau Newydd: Malawi - Difaru Dim

Four young people from Wales head to Malawi in south east Africa to set up a film training project in the latest edition of the Wynebau Newydd series.

In the programme we follow Bethan Marlow and her friends Laura Jones, television director Eilir Pierce and cameraman Matthew Walter as they set up a film project in a country known as one of the poorest in the world.

Why Malawi?

Bethan says, "The main idea was to give people in the Third World a chance to voice their opinions and reveal their own lives through film. I like to think that there are young people in every country with dreams and ambitions, who are also creative. I believe they should have the chance to make their dreams a reality. The reason behind the title 'No Regrets' is because that is our ultimate goal - to make sure there's no turning back and that the project continues."

The project begins with auditions in Malawi where twelve lucky hopefuls will be chosen to take part. After whittling the numbers down, Bethan and her friends embark upon a four-week course to pass on their camera, acting, scripting, directing and producing skills to the crew.

"We made it clear from the start that we were there to assist them with their film. We weren't there simply to tell them what to do," explains Bethan.

But with two different cultures attempting to work together, the drama's not just on the screen...
