A ground-breaking documentary will reveal the true face of Welsh rebel hero Owain Glyndŵr for the first time on television on St David's Day.
Wyneb Glyndŵr ('The Face of Glyndŵr') will take us on a journey to recreate the face of the medieval Welsh Prince using the latest 3D and CGI computer-generated technology.
Owain Glyndŵr started a major rebellion against the English crown in 1400 and proclaimed himself Prince of Wales, but no-one knows what he looked like. This documentary is set to change all that.
Presented by Welsh Hollywood actor Julian Lewis Jones, the mystery starts close to home in Corwen and Cardiff, but experts from America and a remarkable discovery in an ancient archive in Paris adds an international flavour to the journey.
The investigation includes de-ageing techniques used by law enforcement agencies like the FBI, to solve child abduction cases.
Julian - who presents the documentary in a charismatic Indiana Jones sleuth style - will also investigate Glyndŵr's close ties to the Scudamore family. During the making of the programme, a discovery at their ancient family home could provide the key to unlocking this 600-year-old mystery.
The complex process of creating the head of Owain Glyndŵr started by making a basic mask from the Glyndwr marble statue in Cardiff City Hall. A great deal of in-depth research was carried out into the features of Owain Glyndŵr and evidence was gathered from ancient texts, libraries and old portraits.
An award-winning graphics team from Greece headed by Antonis Kotsias used cutting edge CGI to create the new head of Glyndŵr from the research work. All the data was then made available to 3D artists who painstakingly created a 3D model of Glyndŵr's head, adding skin, eyes and hair.
