What's your greenest habit?
Buying local food.
Do you know what your carbon footprint is and does it worry you?
I know it's quite big because of my long journey to work, and I'd like to reduce that. I do worry, but it's difficult to change things for practical reasons at the moment.
How much do you recycle?
Glass bottles and newspapers, mostly, or my daughters tell me off!
How much do you re-use?
Everything! I don't throw anything away that could be useful to someone else. I would never throw clothes away – they either go to a charity shop or get passed on to someone else.
What kind of lightbulbs do you have at home?
A combination of the old kind and those annoying energy-saving ones that take ages to light up properly.
Do you compost?
No
What was the last green thing you did?
Switched the light off as I left a room – I do that instinctively. My generation is very wasteful compared to my parents' generation – ready meals, overuse of energy and central heating – but I see the next generation reverting to more sparing habits.
Do you think we can all make a difference?
Yes. It's good that we all think more about the way we use resources – it's common sense as well as being good for the environment. But big business also has to take responsibility for its contribution, as well as all of us as individuals.
If the big floods came, what would you save – apart from your family?
Photographs and the digital camera – I couldn't bear to think of losing them.
