Gwyrdd Questionnaire

Brychan Llyr

Brychan Llŷr

Presenter Rasus ar Garlam, teepee owner and talented musician

On a scale of 1-10, how green do you think you are?

I'd like to be an 8 or a 9, but if I'm honest, it's a 4 because of all the driving I do.

What's your greenest habit?

Running the teepees on the family farm in Cardiganshire is a green business. I encourage all our visitors to walk when exploring the area instead of driving. There are recycling bins on the site for them as well. At home, I grow vegetables and slaughter lambs for eating, so my food miles are very low.

Do you know what your carbon footprint is and does it worry you?

There's a lot of nonsense talked about this in my opinion. People should think of their carbon emissions as part of the overall picture of how they try to live a greener life. It's important not to go over the top – a little bit of common sense is what's needed.

How much do you recycle?

The council collects newspapers and bottles and I try to throw as little rubbish as possible away.

How much do you re-use?

As much as possible. I come from an agricultural background, where reusing anything is a strong instinct, as is not wasting anything.

What kind of lightbulbs do you have at home?

Mostly energy-saving ones.

Do you compost?

Oh, yes! I have a composter, and everything goes in there.

What was the last green thing you did?

I prepared the ground in the garden for planting vegetables in the spring.

Do you think we can all make a difference?

Not as individuals, no –but if we all try, we can help. Unfortunately, I think the damage we've done to the planet is fundamental, and there's no going back now. I can't see how anyone can deny that it's Man that has caused this. The resources we've based our life on, like oil, are going to run out, and we'll need alternative technologies to produce our energy.

If the big floods came, what would you save – apart from your wife?

Gelert the greyhound, because he's a living being. I think the horses could take care of themselves, and I could get a new camera or computer, but I couldn't replace Gelert.
