On a scale of 1-10, how green do you think you are?
5– although, thinking about it, I only put a bin bag out once a month, and I burn wood, not coal, so 6.
What's your greenest habit?
I throw out hardly any waste at all. The dogs – Seren and Derwen – sleep next to me to save on heating.
Do you know what your carbon footprint is and does it worry you?
No, but I try my best not to pollute. I have no car, I keep chickens and I try not to put anything in landfill. Of course it worries me – where will it all end otherwise? I'd say I have one footprint, not two!
How much do you recycle?
Everything I can! The animals' food tins, beer cans and bottles go to Plas Dinas recycling centre, which is also a great place to find things to reuse.
How much do you re-use?
Everything – almost all things have some kind of reusable value. I bury blue glass half-bottles upside-down to create a plant border. I reuse handles and screws from doors from Plas Dinas – once you've burnt the paint off then and oiled them, they look like new.
What kind of lightbulbs do you have at home?
The energy-saving ones.
Do you compost?
Well, if I don't eat something, the dogs will, and if they turn their noses up, the chickens have it. If they don't want it, it's not worth eating! I make compost from chicken droppings and sawdust.
What was the last green thing you did?
Made henhouses out of wooden pallets.
Do you think we can all make a difference?
Yes – if we all did one thing every day, it would soon add up.
If the big floods came, what would you save – apart from your animals?
The fire grate – the hearth is the heart of a home, and could rebuild my home around it elsewhere.
