Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau

Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau has long established itself as one of Europe's main music festivals, and this year S4C will bring a load of live performances on to the screen over the weekend.

One performance this year that has been a talking point for months is Endaf Emlyn's first ever performance of his album, Salem, on the Saturday night. He recorded the album in the back room of his home in Cardiff back in 1974 – and because it's the centenary of the painting Salem this year – the timing is perfect for Endaf to perform the whole album live.

"There's no doubt that Endaf Emlyn's performance will be quite an event," said Lisa Gwilym, who will co-present S4C's coverage with Owen Powell, starting on Friday, 18 July with a special live programme.

This is the third time Lisa has presented from the Sesiwn for S4C, and she's looking forward to the festival because she enjoys it so much every year.

"There's a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the Sesiwn Fawr," explains Lisa. "And the welcome you get from the organisers is great every time.

"I'm looking forward to hearing Bryn Fôn and Huw Chiswell on the Friday night, when I'll get a chance to sing anthems with tow icons of the Welsh music scene," she said.

As well as the live coverage on Friday night, that will include Huw Chiswell's performance, S4C will also broadcast live from the festival on Saturday night, and a highlights programme will also be shown on the following Saturday (26 July).

The Saturday evening should be a treat for music fans as Steve Eaves, Celt, Saw Doctors and Derwyddon Dr Gonzo are among the acts taking part.

"Derwyddon Dr Gonzo are fantastic," says Lisa. "They're so lively and it's as if there's a party on stage every time they play. They were supposed to open the festival last year, but their van got stuck in mud at Wakestock festival. I hope they arrive this time."
