The opening concert at this year's National Eisteddfod celebrates Welsh medium education in Cardiff and the birthdays of two of the city's secondary schools – Ysgol Glantaf and Ysgol Plasmawr. The concert will be televised live on S4C.
Ysgol Glantaf was established after the National Eisteddfod visited Cardiff in 1978, and Ysgol Plasmawr opened its doors in 1998.
"It's going to be a fantastic night, and different to what people will be expecting. This certainly won't be a school production," says Stifyn Parri, producer of the concert on behalf of the Mr Producer company.
A number of former pupils will take part in the concert, including a trio who have made their mark on the world of classical music singing – Paul Carey Jones, Anthony Stuart Lloyd and Jeremy Huw Williams.
Radio 1 DJ and presenter of S4C's Bandit, Huw Stephens, will take a look at the contribution of pupils of the city's Welsh medium schools to the pop scene in Wales, and will introduce a live performance by band Hanner Pei.
Brothers Daniel and Matthew Glyn will also entertain the audience with their unique brand of humour.
Côr Unedig Glantaf – a choir made up of former pupils, former teachers and parents – will also take part, as well as a joint Ysgol Glantaf and Ysgol Plasmawr choir, and a choir made up of the city's Welsh medium primary schools.
Stifyn says, "I attended the first practice of Côr Unedig Glantaf some months ago now, and when I heard the choir sing, I got a tingling sensation running up and down my spine. Who knows what effect they'll have on me on the actual night!
"I hope that everyone will enjoy the variety of entertainment that's on offer at this concert. To be honest, it's difficult to create a concert on the Eisteddfod stage since it's primarily a stage for competitions. But, I'm confident that, because of the professionalism of the pupils and everyone taking part, it will be a night to remember."
