Pethe Hwyrach

This week in the first Pethe Hwyrach Nia Roberts will be joined in the studio by three eminent and experienced reviewers. The playwright and director Ian Rowlands, arts critic Sioned Williams and columnist Rhys Mwyn air their views on a new theatre production by Bara Caws, a new novel by Emlyn Gomer Roberts and albums released by Gwbdaith Hen Frân and Twmffat.

Deryn Du is a stage production being toured by Theatr Bara Caws. An adaptation by Bryn Fôn of David Harrower’s play Blackbird it tells of the tempestuous relationship between Mei (Bryn Fôn) and Lora, played by Fflur Medi Owen. The original play won an Olivier in 2007, but what will Pethe Hwyrach’s reviewers make of this new adaptation?

Emlyn Gomer Roberts is a well known actor but, as his new novel proves, he’s also a writer of some output. Ar Drywydd y Duwiau is indeed his second publication. The novel Y Ddraig Goch was also published by Gwasg Gwynedd and was warmly received by many. How will his second novel fare with our panel?

Gwibdaith Hen Frân’s long awaited third album has already out sold many of this year’s releases. How Llechan Wlyb will be received by our reviewers is a different matter.

Myfyrdodau Pen Ŵy is Twmffat’s first album. Fronted by Ceri Cunnington, who used to front Anweledig, the album melds many a different style. A riot of sounds and ideas and moods. Enough – or too much – for each different reviewer on Pethe Hwyrach?
