In May 2007 the S4C Authority published a consultation paper - Children in the Digital Future - seeking the views of the public and key stakeholders on its proposals to launch a new Welsh language public service television channel for children.
S4Cās research had indicated that children have dramatically changed the way in which they consume audio visual media and it was felt that a dedicated service would allow Welsh language services to compete with other channels and media dedicated to children. The aim is to ensure that we do not lose a generation of children who clearly have a passion for their culture but are also part of a wider, media savvy generation with high expectations of when and how they wish to consume media.
Responses were invited by online consultation response form, by e-mail or by post. A separate consultation questionnaire was prepared for children and young people under 16. This questionnaire sought to obtain the views of the target audience on the principle of a new Welsh language television service and the preferred hours of broadcast of such a service.
The closing date for receiving all responses, from both children and adults, was 20 July 2007.
