Requests for Material or Clips from the S4C Collection
Overview
The S4C archive contains material from programmes commissioned from Independent production companies (mostly through the medium of Welsh) since the channel's launch in November 1982. While offering material relating to Wales and the Welsh our collection also reflect a wider and more general range of programme strands and content whose themes are universal and appeal to all audiences from pre-school to adults.
The Library is the first point of contact for any enquiry or anyone trying to locate material and after an initial phone conversation we can forward an enquiry form to be completed for full/further details of the request which will be used as the basis for the research and material selected. We will require details for which programme and in what context the material will be used and on what format to transfer the clip.
Requests for clips to be used in programmes for Broadcast on S4C
Companies making programmes for S4C who require specific clips or stock shots can make use of the Library. If you wish to make use of the rushes collection held in Cardiff and Caernarfon please contact the Librarian (02920) 741211 or Clip Cymru Cyf (01286) 677225 to access the tapes held un in North Wales.
Costs: Transfer fees and any relevant clearance costs.
Requests for clips for Non S4C Broadcast
S4C International negotiates all license fees for footage required for non S4C broadcasts (UK and World-wide) although the Library will discuss the actual footage/contents required.
Costs: For these enquiries there are research fees, transfer costs, licence fees and the relevant clearance costs. Please contact S4C International directly for details and prices.
Footage
S4C can provide specific clips e.g. performers / artists / actors / scenes / songs / GV's, however, we do not usually release complete copies of programmes (unless they are required as Safety Copies by the original production company or have been bought for licence through S4C International).
Footage is released by the Library following consultation regarding any contractual limitations or stipulations. Some footage will require further clearances and/ or payments and it is the responsibility of the production company to make any addition payments, clearances or arrange licence - the S4C Library will provide the relevant instructions or contact information for these where possible.
