LATEST ITEMS ON PRODUCERS WEBSITE NOW AVAILABLE AS RSS FEED

29-Apr-2005

The S4C Producers’ website has been updated so that the latest news items are available as an RSS feed.

RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”, and it is a method of syndicating news in a format that is easily readable by various software packages. It means that you can be notified every time the ‘Latest’ pages are updated, without having to visit the site.

This is why the logo can be seen on the ‘Latest’ page.

There are currently two ways for you to set up your computer to benefit from this service.

1) If you are using Mozilla Firefox as your browser, you will be able to add a bookmark to this RSS feed. Click on the orange logo in the bottom right corner and then click on "Subscribe to 'News for S4C's Independent Producers". For ease of use, we recommend you then choose to put it into the “bookmarks toolbar folder”: then you’ll be able to check the latest items with just one click.

For more information on how to use RSS feeds within Firefox visit: http://johnbokma.com/firefox/rss-and-live-bookmarks.html . If a site has a feed (and is configured to advertise it to Firefox) it appears as an icon in the bottom right: see http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html .

Firefox is available from http://www.mozilla.org/

2) Internet Explorer does not currently offer this facility, so if you are using IE you will have to download an RSS reader. One example is klipfolio, which is available for free from:

You will be able to set up klipfolio to run on your desktop and automatically monitor updates to the Producers’ site – and any other site that is RSS-enabled.

Another possibility is to use an e-mail reader that contains an RSS reader, such as thunderbird:
