CULT SHOW LAUNCHES MULTI-PLATFORM MUSIC SERVICE
02-Nov-2005
Welsh music fans will be able to play videos of their favourite bands on their mobile phones from this week onwards, thanks to a new bilingual website showcasing the best in Welsh rock and pop music.
Fans will be able to access free-of-charge performances by bands such as Sibrydion, Ashokan and The Poppies as well as individual artists like Elin Fflur on the new website, Bandit247.com, which has been created by Boomerang, the makers of S4C’s cult music show Bandit.
The new website will also offer a virtual stage to budding musicians and bands who will be encouraged to upload soundtracks or videos of their own performances onto Bandit247.com.
Website users will also be able to stream a weekly hour-long radio show, Radio Bandit, hosted by Radio 1 DJ and Bandit presenter Huw Stephens, along with fellow Bandit host Huw Evans, from the website onto their ipods as a podcast.
Both Huws, along with the rest of the Bandit team, including Sarra Elgan, will be keeping their own blogs on Bandit247.com.
Iona Jones, S4C’s Chief Executive, says, “This new multi-platform service reflects S4C’s level of ambition for extending the value and availability of Welsh language programming and our commitment to the creative and commercial growth of the independent sector.
“Boomerang, in partnership with S4C, is able to exploit the opportunities presented by emerging technologies to extend the Bandit brand and offer added value to Bandit music fans in the shape of this exciting interactive service. I’m also delighted that up-and-coming musical talent will be given the opportunity of reaching a wider audience via Bandit247.com."
