About Point to Point Racing
Point to Point racing is an amateur sport, and a horse must have been hunting at least 4 times before they are eligible to race.
Traditionally, the local hunt horses ran from one church steeple point to the other, giving the sport its name, Point to Point.
Its ac action packed sport, as horse and Jockey jump over at least 18 birch fences, at least 4 foot 3 inches in high, travelling at nearly 30 miles an hour.
Its one of the few sports were men and women compete side by side, all Jockeys were body armour and helmets to protect them if they fall.
As it is an amateur sport the Jockey’s do not get paid.
A maximum of between 16 and 18 horses can compete in a race, but on the rare occasion when it’s a 1 horse race, its an easy win as all the horse and Jockey have to do is cross the winning line, giving us the famous saying “..it’s a walk over “
