The coast of the island of Anglesey has over 400 shipwrecks. Many ships, submarines and their passengers and crew have ended their days on this treacherous coastline.

Hindlea
The Hindlea was a 506 ton steamer that was forced to move to a sheltered spot in Moelfre Bay during a storm in 1959.
By the time the local lifeboat had reached the ship, it was already too close to the rocks. It was a dangerous situation for the crew of the ship and the lifeboat.
Massive swells raised the lifeboat higher than the boat, and then dropped her lower in turn. But every time the lifeboat was raised to the deck level of the Hindlea one member of the ship would jump to safety.
The eight members of the ship were saved and it was one of the biggest achievements in the history of British lifeboats.
