Canaries future safe

Yr Oval, Caernarfon

The future of Caernarfon Town Football Club has been secured with a new team of officials and supporters taking control of the club's affairs.

Former chairman, George Denham, and former treasurer, Eilian Angel, have agreed to pass control of the former Welsh Premiership club to a new team of officials and supporters led by Arfon Jones.

The Canaries were suspended from all footballing activities last week because of a non-payment of fines to the Football Association of Wales.

However, a statement released by the new board on Friday confirms the fine will be paid and suspension lifted allowing Caernarfon Town to complete the season in the Cymru Alliance.

"Following extremely positive discussions regarding the future of Caernarfon Town we can confirm that the future of the club is secure and that a new team both on and off the field will be taking the club forward," said the statement.

Arfon Jones, who will act as interim chairman, was quick to thank the former club officials for their cooperation and service to the club.

"The two, who between them have given over 50 years of service to Caernarfon Town, have given their all to ensuring that this club has a future," said Mr Jones.

"George Denham is, and always has been, a Caernarfon Town man through and through, and as a goodwill gesture is paying the club fine, imposed by the FAW, out of his own pocket, a gesture which is very much appreciated."

The club have also appointed local football stalwart, Geraint Williams, as the new team manager, with Ernie Talbot as his assistant, both of whom have played for and managed the club in the past.

The new team will meet formally for the first time on Monday night, to discuss the club's immediate future which will include securing the club's presence in the Cymru Alliance for the remainder of the season.

Saturday's game against Penrhyncoch remains postponed, as is the proposed home match against Holyhead Hotspur on Wednesday 10 March.

It is hoped the club will recommence playing with a match at Bethesda Athletic on Saturday 13 March.
