Sweden name a strong squad

SwedenSweden have named a strong and experienced squad for the friendly match with Wales at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea next week.

Zlatan Ibrahimović is the only noteable absentee from coach Erik Hamrén's squad after the Barcelona striker recently expressed a desire to take a step back from international football.

Former Aston Villa and Juventus defender, Olof Mellberg, is in line to win his 100th cap in the match on 3 March.

And in a highly experienced squad Anders Svensson could win his 106th cap whilst Olympique Lyonnais playmaker, Kim Källström, will be the main threat to John Toshack's side.

Sebastien Larsson, who plys his trade with Birmingham City, Jonas Olsson of West Brom and Bolton's Johan Elmander will be familiar to the Welsh players whilst Tobias Hysén, who spent time at Sunderland, is the son of former Liverpool player, Glenn Hysén.

Wales have not won at the Liberty Stadium in their three previous visits, securing two draws against Slovenia and Bulgaria before a loss to Georgia.

And John Toshack's men will be hoping to bring another dismal record to an end as well, as Wales have not beaten Sweden in any of their five previous meetings.

The match will be in preparation for the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with the FAW also hoping to arrange matches in May and August.

It will also be a chance for Sweden's new manager, Erik Hamrén, to work with his squad.

Hamrén, who is also manager of Rosenborg BK in Norway, took the reins with the Sewedish national side on a part time basis after Lars Lagerbäck resigned following the Swedes' failure to reach the World Cup Finals in South Africa.

In his first game in charge Sweden lost 0-1 against Italy yn a friendly match in November 2009.

Sweden squad to face Wales: Eddie Gustafsson (Red Bull Salzburg), Andreas Isaksson (PSV Eindhoven), Andreas Granqvist (Groningen), Sebastian Larsson (Birmingham City), Daniel Majstorovic (AEK), Olof Mellberg (Olympiacos), Jonas Olsson (West Bromwich Albion), Behrang Safari (Basel), Oscar Wendt (FC København), Marcus Berg (Hamburger), Rasmus Elm (AZ Alkmaar), Viktor Elm (Heerenveen), Johan Elmander (Bolton Wanderers), Tobias Hysén (IFK Göteborg), Kim Källström (Olympique Lyonnais), Anders Svensson (IF Elfsborg), Ola Toivonen (PSV Eindhoven), Pontus Wernbloom (AZ Alkmaar), Christian Wilhelmsson (Al-Hilal).
