No Breton match for Wales

Brittany XI

Wales' hopes of playing against a Breton XI in May have come to nothing after the Brittany Football Association (BFA) accepted an invitation to play Albania in Tirana.

John Toshack had hoped to spend a week in the French region using the training facilities of Ligue 2 club, FC Nantes, before facing the Breton side on Wednesday 19 May.

But despite the French Football Federation (FFF) agreeing to Wales' request to play against the Breton XI, the BFA announced on Thursday that they would be travelling to Tirana that same week.

The news will be a disappointment to Wales who had been hoping to use the week long training camp and the match as a preparation for their proposed friendly with Croatia on 23 May.
