Shân Cothi
A new series of song, music and chat. The diva Shân Cothi welcomes a galaxy of acclaimed musical performers to her star-studded show.
In the first programme of the Shân Cothi show, world-famous bass-baritone Bryn Terfel is one of the guests as the engaging actress and singer takes us on an exciting musical journey from opera and classical to folk-songs and show stoppers from the musicals.
Special guests will join the soprano from Farmers every week to perform and the impressive guest list includes Elin Manahan Thomas, Only Men Aloud!, Rhys Meirion, Catrin Finch, Connie Fisher and Rebecca Evans among many others.
There's no-one more special than the maestro from Pant-glas, Gwynedd, who will sing the old favourite, Cariad Cyntaf (First Love).
"I've known Bryn for years since we used to compete in the eisteddfods in our teens," says Shân, who stayed with Bryn in London for a period.
"He's a remarkable person. He has a big personality, a big voice, but more than anything else, he has a big heart," adds the singer who played the part of Davina in the award-winning drama, Con Passionate on S4C.
Bryn will also share some of his experiences while performing in operas and concerts all over the world, as well as talking about his hobbies.
"I could talk with Bryn all day about Wagner, but I only need to mention golf and good wine and he's off," says Shân, who'll test her golf putting skills against Bryn's on the show.
Other guests on the first programme will be trumpeter Alison Balsom who'll perform a special version of Rachmaninov's vocal piece, Vocalise. Alison is one of Britain's brightest musicians, having won the Best Young Performer at the Classical Brits as well as the Classic FM Listeners' Choice Award.
Also on the programme, 2005 Côr Cymru winners, Serendipity, led by Only Men Aloud! conductor Tim Rhys-Evans, will join Shân to sing two songs from the French opera, Carmen. They'll also join Shân, Bryn and glam rock band Tigertailz to perform a thrilling version of the song 'I Believe' that launched the charity Amser Justin Time dedicated to Shân's late husband, who died of pancreatic cancer.
