Iolo opens Ysgol Ffynnonbedr's new wild garden

As part of S4C's Green Appeal, presenter Iolo Williams joined pupils at Ysgol Ffynnonbedr, Lampeter as they celebrated the official opening of the school's Wild Garden.

The school opened in September 2007 and since October, pupils, parents, governors and the local community have transformed nearby disused land into a haven of trees and flowers. A lake has also been created to attract wildlife, and a hide for watching the birds and other creatures visiting the garden has been built.

Following the opening, the garden won the prize for Best School Garden in Wales in the Wales in Bloom competition.

During 2008, S4C will be screening a wide range of programming focussing on the environment, and will also be aiming towards becoming a more environmentally-friendly organisation in its offices and its activities.

The 2008 S4C Appeal, Gwyrdd, is designed to help communities which are tackling projects related to improving the environment. If you are involved in any kind of local or national campaign in this field, please contact S4C to see what we can do to support you.

The Grass is Greener

Do you want to clear the rubbish from your local public spaces? Is there a section of the river that needs cleaning? Does a community building need to become greener? Do you want to hold a fashion show with sustainable clothes? S4C can offer help in a variety of ways to communities, clubs, schools and colleges and charities which hope to organise events like these in the planning stages.

S4C could help to raise the profile of the events through our programming services, as well as enlist the help of many familiar faces from the world of television.
