S4C has sponsored a pioneering conference discussing climate change, 'Climate Change: Yesterday Today and Tomorrow', held in Llandrindod in mid April. This ambitious conference organised by the Welsh Language Environment Sector Working Group aimed to share information and best practice in the field of sustainability and environmental issues.

Tim Hartley told delegates that S4C is now a carbon neutral company and Lowri Gwilym showed a selection of programmes comissioned as part of the Channel's ‘Green’ year. Other contributors to the conference included academics, journalists and organisations including Countryside Council for Wales, the Wind power Wales Company and Sustainable Wales.

  • Geraint George (Welsh Language Environmental Sector Group)
  • Dyfed Elis Gruffydd (Chair, Welsh Language Environmental Sector Group)
  • Glyn Davies (Conference President)
  • Jane Davidson AC (AM – Minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing)

During 2008, S4C will be screening a wide range of programming focussing on the environment, and will also be aiming towards becoming a more environmentally-friendly organisation in its offices and its activities.

The 2008 S4C Appeal, Gwyrdd, is designed to help communities which are tackling projects related to improving the environment. If you are involved in any kind of local or national campaign in this field, please contact S4C to see what we can do to support you.

The Grass is Greener

Do you want to clear the rubbish from your local public spaces? Is there a section of the river that needs cleaning? Does a community building need to become greener? Do you want to hold a fashion show with sustainable clothes? S4C can offer help in a variety of ways to communities, clubs, schools and colleges and charities which hope to organise events like these in the planning stages.

S4C could help to raise the profile of the events through our programming services, as well as enlist the help of many familiar faces from the world of television.

How to take part

If you are interested in organising a 'green' fundraising event, and would like support from S4C, send us an online application form or contact the S4C Viewers’ Hotline on 0870 600 4141.

S4C’s 2007 rugby appeal, Hybu Rygbi, will help causes very near to the hearts of rugby supporters in Wales. The channel will be offering practical help to clubs, societies, individuals and charities connected to rugby as they organise fund-raising events.

Events can vary from raising money for your local club to improve facilities or supporting your children or youth teams, to supporting activities the club is organising for causes that are important to them.
