Preaching to the Converted
Building any home is a challenge, but successfully converting an existing building to domestic use takes real skill. There are plenty of developers out there committing 'conversion crimes' - adding cottage-style windows to cowsheds, white plastic conservatories to stables, and rustic-looking chimneys to old barns.

With conversion projects being so popular at the moment we decided to dedicate a special episode of 'Y Ty Cymreig' to the subject. Tune in this week to see four fantastic homes that started life as very different buildings.

Cennen Cottages
'It's very important to retain the sense of history in these buildings', says architect Donald Jones, whose farmyard complex near Llangadog features in the programme.

Capel Maentwrog
Possibly the hardest buildings to convert into homes are chapels, but Capel Maentwrog is a lesson in how to do it well.

Duke's Barn
The principle of retaining large open spaces is taken to an extreme at the amazing Duke's Barn in Monmouthshire which can be opened out to a room 110' long!

An old church hall, Cardiff Bay
With so many conversion projects to be seen in rural areas it is easy to forget that our towns and cities also have their fair share of redundant structures that can make exciting houses.
