Council House

And a programme on social housing wouldn’t be complete without a look at the traditional council house. There are thousands to choose from, but we found a real gem in Llanegryn.
Purchased from the council by tenants Cath Gabriel and her partner Lorraine, this once humble home has become a palace by council house standards. With walk-in wardrobes, a 'Juliette' balcony and a luxury hot-tub in the landscaped garden, you couldn't be further from the hardship of the workhouse where we started the programme. 'we have really enjoyed making this place our own' smiles Cath, 'and it is great to come home after a hard day's wok and jump in the hot tub!'. Plasma TVs and hot tubs probably weren't what Meirionydd council were thinking of when they built this row of council homes, but having taken a dip myself, I can see the appeal!
