Reign: 1200-1237

Kingdom: Gwynedd

His full name was Llywelyn ab Iorwerth and to many historians Llywelyn Fawr was the greatest of the Welsh Medieval Princes. He was a military leader and a diplomat who was determined to modernise his kingdom.

Llywelyn married Joan, King John’s daughter.

The remains of the castles he built in Gwynedd, such as Dolbadarn, can still be seen today.
